Job Description

What you’ll do

This is an excellent opportunity to enhance your current skill base and join us as a Complex Care Assistant. You will have full training and clinical support to develop and improve skills in various complex areas such as tracheotomy, ventilation, seizure management, and stoma care plus so much more.

My Client Profile

My name is Nicola but I prefer to be called Nic. I have been diagnosed with neuromyelitis optica. This is an autoimmune condition characterised by relapses (attacks) of the optic nerves (optic neuritis) and spinal cord (transverse myelitis). This means I need a ventilator to breath, I am unable to move independently, so I need support with every aspects of my day to day life. I have round the clock care from Advantage healthcare and pop in calls from an agency called Supportive to when I need a little extra help with, moving and food preparation.

I have an amazing family, my partner Steve is my main carer and with the help from my family and carers that I am able to have a decent quality of life.

I am able to make decisions for myself and I am involved in all choices and conversations about my care. I can communicate with my carers and family, this means that I am able to make decisions about my care and daily activities, this helps me to build a professional relationship with you and helps you find the best ways to communicate with me. Like a lot of people I can be a little particular and I like my cups of tea with milk, no sugar and I need a straw with it, I also enjoy a can of Coke Zero with a straw, I need my carers to hold my drinks in place so I can enjoy them.

My Interests and Hobbies

I really enjoy going out and I love a good browse around the shops, my trips out need to be limited as I can get infections very easily. My partner supports me with social visits and appointments, I also need my carers help whilst out of the house as well. I have a group of friends who visit me at home regularly.

When I am at home I love watching football, my favourite team is Sunderland AFC, I also enjoy watching the horse racing (Sometime I will have a cheeky little bet), I like keeping up to date with everything so like a lot of people I enjoy a good nose on social media with help of my carers. I have an eye gaze, this means I can watch things and I control this independently.

I have 3 cats Arthur, Martha and Shadow and 1 dog called Stan, my pets mean a lot to me and bring me immense joy. Stan likes to sit on my knee and Martha likes to sit on the back of my chair.

I like quiet time with my family. I like to watch the soaps and crime dramas, I really hate adverts so if you could fast forward them, when possible, that would be great. I like to chat from time to time so if my carers are engaging and really get to know me it makes a big difference.
