At Complete Care Amegreen, part of CCH, we live by our values of Community, Courage, and Heart, and we’re looking for like-minded people to join our growing Complex Care team in Birmingham.
About the Role
We are seeking a compassionate and experienced Care Assistant to provide 1:1 care for a child with complex medical needs at home, supporting their clinical needs, comfort, safety, and wellbeing alongside a knowledgeable family.
About the Child
The child has Pontocerebellar Hypoplasia, dystonia, seizures, and involuntary movement disorder. They are oxygen-dependent (up to 2L via nasal prongs) and require regular oral and nasopharyngeal suction, daily chest physiotherapy, and prescribed medication.
They enjoy music, sensory activities, children’s television, gentle interaction, and being included in conversations. They are generally calm and relaxed and benefit from a familiar, reassuring environment.
Clinical Responsibilities
Previous paediatric complex-care experience is essential, particularly in suctioning and medication administration.
Responsibilities include:
Managing oxygen therapy and suctioning.
Supporting chest physiotherapy.
Monitoring seizures and dystonia episodes.
Administering prescribed medication.
Maintaining accurate care records.
All clinical tasks require competency assessment and sign-off before being undertaken.
Health & Safety
The child is vulnerable to chest infections and has a history of PICU admissions. They also have severe allergies to eggs, chicken, all dairy products, and Epimax paraffin-free ointment, with a risk of life-threatening anaphylaxis. Strict allergen avoidance is essential, and an EpiPen must always be available.
Daily Support
You will provide comfort and reassurance, support positioning and physical wellbeing, encourage sensory play and social interaction, maintain a calm and safe environment, and work closely with the child’s parents to deliver high-quality, person-centred care.
What We’re Looking For
Experience in paediatric complex care is essential, particularly suctioning and medication administration. Candidates should be reliable, compassionate, patient, and confident remaining calm in challenging situations, with strong communication, observation, and record-keeping skills.
You should be committed to delivering safe, person-centred care, building trusting relationships with the child and family, and supporting the child’s daily routine and development.
