Job Description

You’ll support two young sisters as they move from hospital care to their family home. Both girls have congenital myopathy and need support with tracheostomy and ventilation care, PEG feeding, mobilisation and personal care.

They enjoy interaction, singing and nursery rhymes, so getting to know their personalities and spending time doing things they enjoy will be an important part of your role.

You’ll work alongside another member of staff during shifts, providing care tailored to each girl’s individual needs.

You’ll:

  • Support tracheostomy and ventilation care following training and assessment of your clinical competencies.
  • Provide PEG feeding support in line with individual care plans and your training.
  • Assist with mobilisation, personal care and comfort.
  • Engage with the girls through singing, nursery rhymes and activities they enjoy.
  • Support their communication and participation in family life.
  • Work closely with your colleague, their mum and the wider care team.
  • Follow individual care plans and clinical guidance to support their safety and wellbeing.

Before home-based care begins, you’ll attend training and shadow shifts at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital to learn about the girls’ needs and routines.

Qualifications

Previous care experience is preferred but not essential. Experience working with children would be beneficial, and full nurse-led training and ongoing clinical support will be provided.

We’re looking for someone who is:

  • Caring, patient and compassionate.
  • Comfortable interacting with young children and supporting their interests.
  • Reliable and committed to providing consistent care.
  • A good communicator who works well alongside colleagues and family members.
  • Able to attend Alder Hey Children’s Hospital for training and shadow shifts.
  • Willing to learn specialist care skills, follow care plans and work within assessed competencies.
